Course Description

Course Code : ELEC2040

Pre Requisite course is the Industrial Electrical - Foundation ELEC2030.

This course builds upon the skills and understanding acquired during the Foundation course though further practical exercises. On completion of the course, candidates will be competent in basic electrical fault diagnosis and able to perform a variety of electrical maintenance activities.

This is part 2 of a 2 week course which is a ideal for mechanical technicians or candidates who are expected to perform basic fault diagnosis and preventative maintenance tasks on electrical systems.

This is a very practical and hands on course which introduces the fundamental knowledge and skills required to understand and work on industrial electrical systems.


Course Objectives

Elaborate on electrical principles.

Build and test control system circuits

Understanding drawings and diagrams

Identify the correct symbols

Use of various test instruments

Fault finding control circuits including fault rectification

Course Features

Candidates will have a deeper understanding of:

The use of Fuses & MCBs and identification of current ratings and time factors 
Following wiring diagrams to create wiring systems & terminations  
Three Phase Induction motor circuits 
Connection of Motors DOL, Star and Delta circuits
Variable Speed Drives 

The course will also include a number of practical fault finding exercises.
